What is an expert witness?
An expert witness is an independent specialist who provides factual, court-ready evidence about conditions in your country of origin. Their report helps the tribunal understand whether it is safe for you to return.
Can I get one with legal aid?
Yes. If you have a legal aid solicitor, they can apply to the Legal Aid Agency for funding to commission an expert report. You do not need to arrange or pay for this yourself; your solicitor handles the process on your behalf.
If you have a legal aid solicitor, speak to them about whether an expert report would help your case. You do not need to contact us directly.
NGOs & Refugee Law Centres
Front-line organisations need expert evidence they can rely on. We work with NGOs and refugee law centres to provide court-standard country condition reports that underpin legal challenges and advocacy work. Referrals should be made through the instructing solicitor holding the legal aid certificate.
